Country Cobras Nominations closing soon
Hockey Victoria has notified us that the nominations for Country Cobras are closing early this year - next Tue 7th April at the latest.
Any interested players, especially girls, are urged to contact Hockey Ballarat as soon as possible.
Email received from HV 30/3/09:
Greetings to you all.
The nominations for the Country Cobras close today and whilst the results for the boys have been very strong, the response from girls has been poor.
Presently we will be struggling to field full teams. The Under 13 girls in particular are light on for numbers.
I realise that the commitment to travel etc is a concern for parents and we make every attempt to minimize the that but at the same time have an adequate preparation.
Last week I was informed that the second turf at Essendon was behind schedule and would not be available until the end of May. This means we would need to stagger trainings so teams will only every second week until Pitch 2 comes on line.
Perhaps this may appeal to some parents.
Please encourage youngsters to get their names in.
At this stage I will accept nominations by Email till Tuesday Night (hard copy in the post), list name, date of birth and preferred positions..
Any queries - Email or ring 0416048680
Regards,
Michael Nelson

HB Grand Finals
The Hockey Ballarat Grand Finals are on this weekend.
The first Grand Final is the Under 15 Boys at 6pm on Friday night, 11 September. This match is between the Blazers and the Cougars. The Blazers have not been beaten by the Cougars throughout the season, but there have been some close games. Come and see if the Cougars can beat the Blazers for the first time this season in the Under 15 Boys Grand Final!
Saturday, 12 September, the day begins with the Under 15 Girls Grand Final at 11am between Loreto Gold and the Dees. With four hard fought matches throughout the season, Dees winning three, but Loreto Gold winning the last, this is not a match to miss!
At 1pm on Saturday, the Senior Women's Grand Final will begin. After finishing fourth, Blaze Black have shown their depth by winning both the knockout semi-final and the preliminary final to make their way into the Grand Final to challenge Eureka Golden City Gold, who finished first this season. The last three meetings have resulted in Eureka Gold wins, can Blaze Black overcome these odds to take the victory?
The Senior Men's Grand Final is the last game of the day, but proves to be a game not to miss! With two wins to Eureka Golden City Blue, a win to Eureka Golden City Gold and a draw, a winner is hard to pick.
Come and see a great display of hockey skills here in Ballarat Friday night and Saturday this weekend.

Hockey Ballarat Grand Final Results
The Hockey Ballarat Grand Finals were held on Friday 11 September and Saturday 12 September. Congratulations to all teams who made it to the finals, it has been a very successful and hard fought competition in many grades this season.
Under 15 Boys
Blazers 2 defeated Cougars 1.
Under 15 Girls
Dees 1 defeated Loreto Gold 0.
Senior Women
Eureka Golden City Gold 4 defeated Blaze Black 3
Goal Scorers: Eureka Golden City Gold - Kate Ryan, Hannah Maloney, Claire McKenzie, Nina Saines
Blaze Black - Rhiannon Durie, Jacinta Polmear, Jess Watts
In a game that had all the skills of top women's hockey, Ballarat BLAZE had many second half opportunitites that failed to find the mark. EuGC Gold were consistent throughout the game and deserved their hard fought win.
Senior Men
Eureka Golden City Blue 8 defeated Eureka Golden City Gold 2
Goal Scorers: Eureka Golden City Blue - 2, Andrew Marshall, Ian Edgar, Zak McMurray, 1, Mark Brown, Liam Canavan.
Eureka Golden Cty Gold - 2, Nathan Hargreaves
The first ten minutes to this match between the two brother teams from EGC showed that the trophy was not going to go to either side without them earning it. The second half aw EGC Blue finally put together some consistent structure around their forward thrusts and reap the rewards for this work.
Congratulations to all teams who played in the Hockey Ballarat 2009 Winter Season.
