2005 Hockey Ballarat Senior Competitions

By HOCKEY BALLARAT 29th March 2005

As the commencement of the 2005 season approaches, Hockey Ballarat seeks applications for the entry of teams into the Senior Women's and Senior Men's Competitions.  Information regarding U15 junior teams is also available from our website www.hockeyballarat.org.au.

Team Entry Forms

Team Delegates may download a team entry form that may be used for either competition.  Please note that the due date for lodgment of this form is Friday, 8 April 2005.  We request that you lodge a separate entry form for every team to be entered.

We estimate that final fixtures will be provided to all clubs by Friday, 15 April 2005 along with details of the finals system.  These will be published via an online format this season.

Fees

We advise that fees for this season will be charged on a per team basis as opposed to on a player by player basis.  Attached to this email is a document rationale regarding the new fee structure.

In summary, fees are

  • Team Fee $1500 for season which is payable either upfront or in installments.
    • Installment 1 - $500 due End of Round 4
    • Installment 2 - $500 due End of Round 8
    • Installment 3 - $500 due End of Round 12
  • Weekly turf fees of $6 per player ($66 per team).

These will include a component for insurance regarding injuries sustained during play.

For any players selected in the State League Men's Representative Team, additional fees are $190 per player for the season (all inclusive).

Please feel free to read the letter to the delegates which explains the rationale used by the Executive Committe for the changes.

Uniforms

An area of great improvement amongst both Junior and Senior clubs last year was that of uniforms.  Just a reminder that:

  • Each club shall have distinguishing colours, which must be worn, and no Club joining the Association shall adapt colours used by any other Club or by the Ballarat Representative Team.
  • Each team is to register its team colours and uniform on the Team Registration Form prior to the commencement of the season. Skirts or shorts must be registered.
  • All team members are to wear individually numbered shirts.

In the event of one club entering multiple teams in the one competition, the team listed as the AWAY team on the fixture will be required to wear an alternate uniform.

Player Registration Forms & Transfers and Clearances

Each player will still be required to register with the association.  Players are permitted to be registered with only one club per competition.  For example, a junior may be registered with a different junior and senior club, or a senior women wishing to play in both the women's and men's competitions may be registered with a senior mens and senior womens club.

A player desiring to transfer from one club to another shall obtain an official clearance form and submit this to the Executive Committee.

  • No player shall play for a new Club, until such clearance has been received and approved by the Executive Committee. Only one such clearance per player will be accepted within a Season.
  • After a player has not played for one complete season they shall automatically have an open clearance. (No clearance form required)

By-Laws

Umpiring

In an effort to improve the standard and consistency of umpiring in the senior competitions, the establishment of a roster of experienced and qualified umpires will continue.  Umpires will be selected for the panel on the basis of their umpiring badge qualifications and experience.

As per previous seasons, Hockey Ballarat has appointed an umpires co-ordinator who is the primary contact for all Umpiring Enquiries.  Damien Dewildt has kindly volunteered for this role this season.  His contact details are:

M: 0418 239 449

E: wildtabeest(at)hotmail.com

Remuneration for senior games is the same as last season;

  • Badged Umpire ($15 per game)
  • Unbadged Umpire ($10 per game)

All clubs are requested to submit a list of persons on the attached form that they believe would be suitable for inclusion on this roster.

Finally, it is anticipated that there will be an umpires course run during the season in Ballarat (Subject to Interest).  Details will be via our website when they are finalised.

Pre-Season Competition

Due to the early fall of Easter this year, the dates investigated for a pre season competition were during School holidays.  Consequently it was decided that a pre-season competition will not be held this year.

Representative Teams

In addition to the Men's State League Representative Team which plays in the Victorian Metropolitan competition, it is anticipated that Ballarat will enter both a senior Men's and women's Country Week team this year.  This competition occurs over the Queen's Birthday long weekend in June (Saturday 11th - Monday 13th.)  Club's are encouraged to support these events by making their players available for selection.  Further information will be communicated via Hockey Ballarat's website.

Senior Competition Committee & Meeting Schedule

The senior committe is headed up by Cameron Stewart this season.  His contact details are:

M: 0403 959 769

It is anticipated that each club delegate should hold a position on the Senior Competition Committee.  Club delegates meetings will be held on the 3rd Monday of each month during the season.  The first meeting is scheduled for Monday 16th May at Aquanis College, Mair St Ballarat. (8:00 pm start)
