During the 2006 Commonwealth Games in Melbourne, up to 15,000 Volunteers will be appointed. Almost 50% of these will fulfil general volunteer roles, 30% sports specific roles, and approximately 20% specialist roles in the likes of IT, Workforce Operations and Medical support. It is estimated that the hockey competition will require approximately 150 sport specific volunteers.

• Conduct all sourcing and recruitment in accordance with all relevant employment legislation applicable to Victoria and Australia, including, but not limited to Equal Employment Opportunity legislation.

• Appropriately assess each candidate’s suitability for the role on the basis of merit (skills, experience, competence and cultural alignment to Melbourne 2006 and the sport) and in accordance with the core competencies and requirements set by the Melbourne 2006 Volunteer Program.

• Ensure that each candidate has read, understood and meets the minimum requirements (see Minimum Requirements for Volunteers).

• Ensure that all candidates understand that their nomination is subject to final checks conducted by Melbourne 2006 and that only Melbourne 2006 may confirm their role as a sports specific volunteer.

• Provide appropriate candidate details in the timeframes specified (see timelines).

• Sight and confirm each candidate’s identity – as per the security screening process.

• Collect a passport quality photo from each candidate for accreditation purposes.

• Advise and direct unsuccessful candidates for sports specific roles to generalist volunteer and community opportunities.

Hockey Australia would like to provide the opportunity to participate as a volunteer at the Commonwealth Games to as many people already involved as a volunteer in hockey as is possible. All Clubs and Associations will be contacted in early April to ensure as many people are aware of this volunteer opportunity.
